Chesapeake Public Library Anime Festival

January 8, 2011
11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Greenbrier Library
1214 Volvo Parkway
Chesapeake, VA 23320
Map and Directions

The Chesapeake Public Library has a spectacular treat for anyone interested in Anime, or Japanese culture. We've lined up panels, demos, crafts, and we'll be showing anime all day for all ages.

The entire Greenbrier Library is going to be used for this event. We will have anime and Miyazaki screenings all day, crafts (origami and candy sushi) for all ages, and in our meeting room Forrest Young will give a workshop on graphic novel art instruction, Ron Suzuki will speak about the Japanese American Experience, Robert Chrzanowski will give a workshop on how to play Go, Heather Mcaffee will give a workshop on cosplay makeup, and then we will have a cosplay contest with the grand prize being a weekend pass to Anime Mid Atlantic 2011. Registration for the cosplay contest will be at the registration table when you arrive to pick up your badge and schedule.

In addition to these events, we will have some trivia on the TV screens throughout the day, have an artist alley where local artists can display their art (this year we are just focusing on framed art such as pictures/paintings/etc.), a food table were people can sample some Japanese food (while supplies last), table-top gaming (Go, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon card games), and we will have a little manga library where people can sit down and enjoy some manga (and even check it out).

It is going to be the most fun you can find outside of Tokyo! So, if you are in the neighborhood, grab your wooden geta's and come on down.
